Project: Western Bay of Plenty Skills Gap Analysis
Client: Priority One
Date: 2003

The Western Bay of Plenty Skills Gap Analysis was jointly commissioned by Priority One, Tauranga District Council, Work and Income and Bay of Plenty Polytech. The aim of the analysis was to complete a stock-take of current and future skill needs and knowledge gaps across key industries and job types. This will assist in developing more effective education and training provision for key sectors and will provide a sound base to develop industry-specific strategies for attracting and retaining skilled staff.

The research collected data in three main areas:

  • Current industry skill set and knowledge needs/gaps
  • Industry projections of skill set and knowledge requirements three years into the future and the perceived drivers of change
  • Industry awareness of current education and training provision (within the sub-region) and perceptions of the strengths and limitations of current education and training provision
