Deryck is the Director of APR Consultants Ltd.  Over the course of his career, he has acquired a wide range of experience in planning and research. Deryck's experience as a researcher is backed by resource management, science, planning, economics and natural resources qualifications. He was the principal of DJ Shaw Associates from 1983 until the formation of the APR consultancy in 1990.  Deryck holds professional memberships with the New Zealand Institute of Management, the Royal Society of New Zealand, the New Zealand Planning Institute, the Market Research Society of New Zealand, and the New Zealand Association of Economists.  He has also had extensive experience in a governance role with many local, regional and national bodies.

Oliver Bruce RESEARCH ANALYST

BA in Human Ecology, (conc. Business, Politics and Ecology), College of the Atlantic, ME, USA

Originally from Rotorua, Oliver Bruce graduated with a Bachelor of Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic, Bar Harbor, Maine, USA concentrating on Politics, Ecology and Business.  Since leaving New Zealand for studies abroad in 2003, he has worked at the Institute for Global Development and Environment at Tufts University in Boston, USA, attended United Nations summits on climate change and development as a policy analyst and done field research on fair trade coffee in Guatemala. Furthermore, he has been involved with clean-energy and private conservation startups and social enterprises with a number of successful serial entrepreneurs based in the USA. At APR he has been part of the team responsible for the Rotorua Economic Growth Strategy, as well as studies on lakeweed control for amenity values, museum asset management plans and tertiary education provision. He also lectures part-time at Waiariki Insititute of Technology.

Oliver brings to APR strong skills in the following:

  • Value addition to decisions based on Lean and Six-Sigma process improvement.
  • Identifying and harnessing emerging trends and opportunities, especially as related to environmental issues and policy.
    • Project management experience.
    • Quantitative and qualitative research.

Nidhi Zakaria Eipe - Research Analyst

She has worked as a Writer, Editor, Executive Assistant, Leadership Facilitator and Communications and Media Advisor. She has strong written, verbal, critical thinking and research skills and specialises in research on security, education and the arts. Nidhi has significant experience in the areas of international education reforms; international business development; humanities, arts and culture; and youth leadership training. She is the recipient of a number of international awards and fellowships to pursue advanced training in peace-building/conflict resolution and to promote interfaith dialogue.
